Welcome to the Buckeye Union High School District

"Inspire Minds To Change the World...Everyone, Everyday"

A Letter From The Superintendent

The Buckeye Union High School District community encompasses approximately 1,200 square miles and currently serves about 5,600 students grades 9 through 12. The Buckeye Union High School District (BUHSD) was founded in 1921 and serves the rapidly growing cities of Buckeye, a portion of Goodyear, and other surrounding areas. BUHSD has a rich agricultural tradition mixed with modern suburbia which makes it a great place to live, learn, and work. Currently, there are three comprehensive high schools and a Learning Center within BUHSD. Buckeye Union High School was founded in 1921. Eighty years later, Estrella Foothills High School opened in 2001, then Youngker High School in 2007, and finally, the Learning Center in 2011. BUHSD receives students from the Arlington, Buckeye, Liberty, and Palo Verde Elementary School Districts. As a district, we are immensely proud of the rich traditions that have been established in our schools and the opportunities living in a small-town community provides to our students. In BUHSD, our vision is to graduate students who are ready to pursue and achieve their postsecondary goals in life. Our goals in BUHSD are:

1.) Provide positive, healthy, and safe school learning environments,
2.) Promote valuable district career development,
3.) Provide beneficial educational partnerships and CTE programs,
4.) Maintain effective use of District resources in our growing district,
5.) Promote effective and efficient communication.

We understand that both rigorous academic standards and 21st century skills are a bridge to authentic, intellectually challenging work by students. BUHSD delivers its mission through a strong academic program, a wide range of co-curricular offerings, and a commitment to provide excellence tailored to the individual needs of every student. The district’s System of Learning personifies graduates who are Future Ready and prepared for their next steps after high school graduation and their choice of Career Pathways. The Future Ready program is based on six principles that focus on preparing students for post-graduation success.

Our students have outstanding educational opportunities in traditional academic programs, along with individualized opportunities through our Career and Technical Education department, our English Language Acquisition program, our Exceptional Students Services program, and a large variety of extracurricular activities. As a district we understand the importance of the information age and 21st century skills for our students, and we have been a 1:1 district with all students being issued a laptop device for their personal use for the school year since 2014. We also understand the importance of educating the whole child and we encourage all students to plug in and find a way to get more involved in their school. Our schools offer a variety of both athletic and extracurricular opportunities for our students' interests and desires. Athletically, our schools are members of the Arizona Athletic Association. Both Buckeye Union and Younker participate in the 5A Central Valley Region and Estrella Foothills is a member of the 4A West Valley Region. We believe it is those extracurricular opportunities that complete the high school experience for our students and become the memories they have for the rest of their lifetime.

In BUHSD we are committed to success for all students by providing a safe, engaging, and relevant educational experience. We look forward to the relationships we will forge together with you during your time in BUHSD. We have overcome the challenges that we have all faced in recent times and have enjoyed having our students back on their campuses. We enjoy seeing our students be able to participate in those high school activities that are so meaningful to so many students throughout the course of their high school careers. I hope you have a great 2023-24 school year.

Sincerely,

Dr. Steve Bebee
BUHSD Superintendent
