BUHSD Update

BUHSD Families,

We are excited to report that we had just under 65% of our district students who were eligible to start hybrid learning this week take advantage of the opportunity and come to school in-person.

We want to express our appreciation to our students that were cooperative in getting their temperatures checked, wearing cloth face coverings, following signage for modified traffic patterns, avoiding gathering in large groups, and washing their hands or using hand sanitizer frequently.  As we continue to have students on campus, and look to increase the frequency, we ask that families be vigilant about keeping their student home if the student has any of the following symptoms: fever or chills, cough, headaches, muscle or body aches, shortness of breath or difficulty breathing, fatigue, new loss of taste or smell, sore throat, congestion or runny nose, nausea or vomiting, diarrhea, or rash.  We want to do everything that we can do to prevent the spread of germs and viruses on campus to help keep our school community safe so that in-person learning can continue and increase.

Please watch your email for a survey coming out next week about our possible next steps.  We need your feedback to decide what our next steps for re-opening should be.

As we have said for weeks now, we are continuing to monitor the data from the school reopening dashboard.  As a district, we are still listed with an overall risk level of “moderate” with our recommended learning scenario being “hybrid with onsite support”.

  • Cases: we had an increase from 28.99 cases to 47.9 cases per 100,000 population, so we are maintaining this benchmark at the moderate level;
  • Percent Positivity: this percentage increased to 6.24%, still meeting this benchmark;
  • Covid-like Illness: we are still meeting this benchmark with Covid-like illness at just 3%.

Again, we are excited to have students back on campus and hope that everyone will remain vigilant in face covering wearing, hand washing, and other precautions to keep our community safe.

Sincerely,

Rob Roberson

Interim Superintendent
