BUHSD Update

BUHSD Families,

At this time, keeping the health and safety of our students and staff at the forefront, we are making the difficult decision to transition back to Distance Learning beginning Monday, November 23rd. This decision was not made lightly as the Governing Board and District recognize the impact that this has on families and students. We entered the Hybrid Learning phase in good faith; wanting to provide our families who wanted in-person learning for their student an opportunity for it. However, over the course of the last six weeks while in Hybrid Learning, the number of cases has risen sharply across the state, the county, and within our school district community.

With today's posting on the school re-opening dashboard, our overall risk level remains at the "substantial" level for the second week in a row. Specifically:

-      Cases: we have had an increase from 155.03 cases to 231.91 cases per 100,000 population, so we have not met this benchmark for three consecutive weeks;

-      Percent Positivity: this percentage increased from 8.7% to 11.42%, so this benchmark has entered the substantial range;

-      Covid-like Illness: this benchmark has moved from the minimum to moderate level with Covid-like illness increasing from 4% to 5.03%.

As we transition back to Distance Learning for the remainder of first semester, there are a few important things we need to inform you of:

-      With today's announcement, Youngker High School will remain in Distance Learning tomorrow.

-      Each school will remain on the bell schedule that has been used during the Hybrid Learning phase. This will provide continuity as we transition into Distance Learning and back to Hybrid Learning when it is prudent to do so.

-      On-Site Support location at each school will remain open for students who need it to be able to access their Distance Learning classes.

-      Modified bus routes will run to provide students who need to come to On-Site Support transportation to do so. Check the district website at www.buhsd.org for locations of these modified bus stops.

-      Meal Service will continue to be available at the school sites and at remote pick-up locations. Curbside meals are distributed at schools Monday through Friday (except school holidays) from 9 am to noon and 5 pm to 8 pm. For remote locations and times, check the district website at www.buhsd.org.

-      Information will be forthcoming after the Thanksgiving holiday for second semester options and schedules.

As we transition back to Distance Learning, we will continue to monitor health benchmarks and follow the Governing Board approved Learning Modality Plan in hopes of returning to Hybrid Learning at some point early second semester.

Sincerely,

Rob Roberson

Interim Superintendent
