Superintendent Update 9-18-20

BUHSD Families,

We were excited to welcome students in identified small groups, as well as our students who have been attending on-site support, to our campuses yesterday.  Having students on campus brings energy that we miss.

With the data posted yesterday on the school reopening dashboard, our specific district continues to have an overall risk level of “substantial” with our recommended learning scenario being “virtual with onsite support”.  More specifically:
- Cases: we had an increase from 79.10 cases to 195.36 cases per 100,000 population so we are not meeting the benchmark with cases for two-weeks being less than 100 cases per 100,000 population;
- Percent Positivity: this percentage decreased from 11.21% to 3.28% with the latest dashboard, which means that we are potentially one week away from meeting this benchmark;
- Covid-like Illness: we are still meeting this benchmark with Covid-like illness staying at just 2% for consecutive weeks.

With fall break two weeks away, and anticipating that recent data will show a decrease in cases when it posts (the dashboard data provided by the state and county for schools has a 2-week lag period), we continue to move forward with our plans to bring all students who have chosen Option A for Distance Learning/Hybrid after fall break.  With this update, we are including more details about the hybrid schedule.  The bell schedule for the hybrid schedule will be communicated to you next week from the school, but the attached information gives start and ends times for the day.

We appreciate your patience as we monitor the information from the state and county health experts as we work to re-open schools.  Please note that Monday, September 21st, is our Fall Learning Conference for staff and a day off for our students.  We will resume distance learning on Tuesday, September 22nd.

Sincerely,

Rob Roberson
Superintendent
