BUHSD Families,

Good news.  With the most recent posting to the school reopening dashboard, we are trending in the right direction to be ready for hybrid instruction immediately after fall break.

With the data posted yesterday on the school reopening dashboard, our specific district continues to have an overall risk level of “substantial” with our recommended learning scenario being “virtual with onsite support” at this time, but we have the potential to move to the recommended learning scenario being “hybrid with onsite support” by the start of fall break.  More specifically:
- Cases: we had a decrease from 195.36 cases to 32.77 cases per 100,000 population so, although we are not currently meeting the benchmark with cases for two-weeks being less than 100 cases per 100,000 population, we are potentially one week from doing so;
- Percent Positivity: this percentage increased from 3.28% to 4.33% with the latest dashboard, but it meets the benchmark with us remaining under 7% for two consecutive weeks;
- Covid-like Illness: we are still meeting this benchmark with Covid-like illness staying at just 2% for consecutive weeks.

With only one week of instruction left before fall break, and anticipating that the data will continue to move in the right direction, we continue to move forward with our plans to bring all students who have chosen Option A for Distance Learning/Hybrid after fall break for in-person instruction two days per week.  Today or early next week, you will receive an email from your student’s school with the hybrid bell schedule that we will begin on October 12th and the grouping your student has been assigned to; indicating whether your student will attend in-person on Mondays and Thursdays or Tuesdays and Fridays.  If you choose for your student to not return in-person after fall break, please note they will need to move to the times on the new bell schedule even if they remain Distance Learning five days a week.

We appreciate your patience as we monitor the information from the state and county health experts as we work to re-open schools.  We hope this upcoming week will be our last week of complete distance learning.

Sincerely,

Rob Roberson
Superintendent
