BUHSD Update 1-29-21

BUHSD Families,

We have one final week of all Distance Learning before we return for In-Person instruction for those who choose to do so.  If you have not responded to the Learning Declaration to choose either In-Person or Distance Learning for your student for the period of February 8th through March 5th, please do so today.  It is important we have accurate numbers of how many students will be on campus as we do our final logistical planning, so if you do not complete the Learning Declaration, your student will continue in Distance Learning through March 5th.  If your student is doing courses through Option B (online through Edgenuity), you do not need to complete the survey.

This coming Wednesday, February 3rd, we will use an early release schedule as planned on the district calendar for Distance Learning to allow campus faculty and staff Professional Learning Community (PLC) time in preparation for the re-opening of schools for In-Person Learning.  BUHS students will be in class virtually from 8:25 am to 12:20 pm on that day; EFHS students will be in class virtually from 7:30 am to 11:25 am; and YHS students will be in class virtually from 7:20 am to 11:15 am.  We also have a Learning Conference Day scheduled for staff on Friday, February 12th, so that day will be a holiday for students with no school (In-Person or Distance).

For those who want to consider the health benchmarks on the county school dashboard in making the decision whether to send your student in person or keep them distance learning, here is the information from yesterday’s posting.  Our overall risk level remains at the “substantial” level with the recommended learning scenario being “Virtual with On-Site Support”.  Specifically:

  • Cases: we had a decrease from 1148.22 cases to 898.66 cases per 100,000 population;

  • Percent Positivity: this percentage decreased from 24.93% to 22.21%;

  • Covid-like Illness: this benchmark decreased from 13.7% to 12.5%.

Finally, if you want to provide input into what the Governing Board should be looking for in selecting a new Superintendent to lead the district beginning July 1st and have not done so yet, there is a link on the district website to do so.  On the district website at https://www.buhsd.org/news/what_s_new/superintendent_search_e-_survey there is a survey link being provided by the Arizona School Boards Association, who has been hired to assist the Governing Board in this process, to provide feedback.  The Board appreciates any feedback you provide.

Again, thank you for completing the Learning Declaration so we can make sure your student is educated in the learning environment you feel is best at this time.  You will have the opportunity to change that learning environment for the final quarter of the school year.

Sincerely,

Rob Roberson

Interim Superintendent
